PLANS are well underway for this year’s Houghton Feast – and people are being invited to get involved.
Organisers of the festival, which is held every October, want firms to enter into the celebration’s parade.
Although the feast is said to date back 900 years, it was revived in its current form in 1967.
The parade route starts at Houghton Kepier Medical Group car park, before journeying through the town centre.
Houghton Round Table, which organises the parade, is once again hoping that companies in the area will join in the fun on Saturday, October 8.
Groups typically walk around wearing fancy dress or use a specially-decorated float to ride through Houghton.
Organiser John Price said that in recent times it has been harder to get entrants to the parade and called on businesses considering it to get involved.
He said: “In past years, there were many businesses, such as Vaux, the Co-op and Reg Vardy, who were brilliant supporters of the event every year.
“Many community groups are not now in existence who always participated and community life seems to be struggling.
“The parade would be an exciting opportunity to rekindle local grassroots organisations in the town.
“Also, if there are any men under 45 looking to get involved with the Round Table, this is an excellent event to start by helping out and meeting new friends.”
Houghton Feast will take place from October 7 to 16.
Those interested in taking part in the parade should contact Mr Price on 553 6600 or any other members of Houghton Round Table.
