Pair still being questioned as man fights for his life in Hartlepool

A man and woman arrested after a man was found with serious head injuries are still being questioned by police today.

The 56-year-old victim was taken to hospital after being found at an address in Rydal Street, Hartlepool, at 10.43pm on Friday.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough,where he is in a critical condition.

A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and a 32-year-old woman on suspicion of assault,

Both are still helping police with their inquiries, and a cordon remained in place around the house this morning.

Cleveland Police believe the attack may be linked to an earlier incident at an address in St Oswalds Street, Hartlepool at 8.33pm on Friday.

There, the front door was boarded up and a window was peppered with what appear to be bullet holes.
