Pair freed from lift

FIRE officers rescued two people who got stuck in a city centre car park lift.

It happened at Sunderland’s St Mary’s car park, by the Wearmouth Bridge.

Cars were stopped from going in while officers from Sunderland East fire station, in Railway Row, Millfield, attended the incident to free the trapped couple.

The incident happened at about 5pm yesterday, and they were freed a short time later.
