Majority of readers say Prince Harry 'should have consulted the Queen'

A large majority in our poll think Prince Harry and his wife Meghan should have consulted the Queen about their big decision.

It has been reported that The Sussexes did not speak with any royal on the matter. But should they have done?

We asked in our Facebook poll: “Do you think the Queen should have been consulted before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, announced they wished to step back as senior members of the Royal Family?

At the time of writing around 4,500 people had voted in our poll, with 76% saying yes, 24% saying no. Here are some reactions.

Bob Simpson said: “What has it to do with the Queen if Harry wants to give up? He always said he hated being in the limelight.”

Victoria Tori Humble said: “I feel that they should definitely have had the decency and respect to consult with the family first. However, they are a young couple who have there own lives to lead and with a young son to look after.”

Tracy White thinks: “Harry is so like his mum, a people’s person and he hates all the other side of things. Am I surprised he didn't tell the Queen? Definitely not, because like his mum he would know what wrath would follow.”

Eileen Joyce said: “I was more shocked at the fact they say they want to work and earn their own money! That’s got to be a first for this family.”

Mick Conlin: “Couldn't give a hoot about those two parasites. Take the house back at Windsor if they want to become independent.”
