Majority of readers in our poll say they are 'happy' with general election result

With the dust now settling on the general election, the public are taking stock of the situation.

Nationally Boris Johnson’s Conservatives had a convincing win. In Sunderland all three Labour MPs were re-elected, but with significantly reduced shares of the vote.

So we asked in out Facebook poll: “Are you happy with the outcome of the general election?” Unlike the election, it was tight, with 53% of almost 5,000 people saying yes, 47% no.

Rose Curry said: “Locally no, I’m disappointed - would have liked to have seen a change from Labour.”

Dean Murphy said: “How can you be happy with a Tory government if you are working class? They will do nothing for us in the North East and people are over the moon! Have a day off.”

Neil Hudson thinks: “Great result for the Conservatives and the UK; not so much for the North east still being under Labour power and MPs that are only in it for themselves. Roll on January 31.”

Rachael Lamplough said: “Good for the north east but not the UK, still stuck with a man who hides in a fridge!”

But Janet Welsh said: “All I can say to you Labour sheep, your flock is getting smaller and your number of shepherds in Parliament is decreasing.”

Amber Roberts said: “I honestly do not know who is the best party for the UK anymore. They all screw up no matter who is in charge anyway.”
