Hundreds of North East families have been at the home of the Black Cats as they celebrated passing an education programme.
The Sir Bob Murray Family Graduations hosted parents and their children at the Stadium of Light to celebrate their completion of Foundation of Light’s Family Learning programmes.
Family Learning is a 10-week programme run in primary schools which uses the power of football to engage families in activities that inspire learning and achievement, develop and build new skills and improve relationships within the family.
More than 51 schools from across the Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham areas took part in the event, sponsored by Sir Bob Murray CBE, former chairman of SAFC and Foundation of Light founder.
SAFC legend and foundation ambassador Marco Gabbiadini gave a speech to those graduating, before posing for photos and autographs.
Marco said: “I’ve been an ambassador of the Foundation for some time now and it’s always a pleasure to be involved in these events.
There’s a strong sense of community in the North East and to be part of an organisation that supports that community so much is a real privilege.Marco Gabbiadini

John Newton, Foundation of Light family learning specialist said: “The Sir Bob Murray Family Learning Graduations are one of the high points of our year.
“To see so many people who have challenged themselves to learn, develop and improve their lives for themselves and their families come together in celebration is very rewarding.”
“All of this is only possible thanks to Sir Bob Murray, who funds the celebration, and our fantastic range of programme funders who keep Family Learning free for schools and families across the region.”
