A. HMRC will treat this as an exceptional circumstance and you will still be classed as working even if for example you are self-isolating at home but not actually working from home.

Q. My employer "let me go" before the furlough scheme was introduced, are they now obliged to rehire me and take advantage of the scheme?

A. The scheme applies to anyone on payroll on or before 28/2/2020. If you think you would be covered by the scheme then make contact with your employer and check if you'll be rehired and they are seeking help from scheme. If they still refuse to rehire you then request written confirmation. Current advice is that you may have grounds

to take your employer to an Employment Tribunal.

A. Initially when the scheme was introduced certain groups of workers were not specifically covered and this included apprentices. However there has been amendments and clarifications introduced to the scheme. This includes apprentices so provided your son started his apprenticeship training on or before 28/2/2020 he is covered and his employer can access the scheme. A number of other groups have been added to the scheme and this may change so advice would be to check guidance on Gov.uk website.

Q. Is it possible for me to have another job if I'm furloughed but not actually able to work from home?

A. Speak to your current employer to see if they are happy to allow you to do this and also let any potential new employer that you are furloughed. Access to the scheme by your employer will not be adversely affected if you have a second job.
