One person taken to hospital after Tyne Tunnel crash

One person has been taken to South Tyneside Hospital after an crash between a motorcyclist and a vehicle at the south side of the Tyne Tunnel.

Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service were called to the northbound carriage way of the tunnel on the South Shields side at 2.30pm after a motorbike collided with a vehicle.

It is believed the crash has caused the motorcyclist to have been knocked off their bike.

Police, along with the ambulance service, who sent a rapid response team and an ambulance response team, have now left the scene.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "One patient has been taken to South Tyneside Hospital.

"We do not know the extent of their injuries, but they are not believed to be serious.

"We left the scene at 3.15pm."
