One person airlifted to hospital following a crash in Sunderland

Emergency services were called to a crash in Sunderland today and one casualty was airlifted to James Cook Hospital.

Another person was taken by road ambulance to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The crash happened at 5.30pm today at the junction of Ryhope Road and Villette Road.

Three fire crews, two ambulances and the Great North Air Ambulance helicoper were all sent to the scene.

The extent of injuries is not yet known.
