One driver taken to hospital after three vehicle crash near Hylton Road

One driver has been taken to hospital in an ambulance after being involved in a three vehicle collision on Front Road.

The incident took place just before 12pm on Tuesday, December 8 at the junction with Hylton Road, opposite the Heron Food store.

Three vehicles were involved in the collision however only one driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officers responding to the incident have confirmed that the road is now clear.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before midday today (Tuesday) we received a report of a collision involving three vehicles on Front Road at the junction with Hylton Road, Sunderland.

A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson added: “We are called at 11.48am to reports of a road traffic collision on Front Road in Sunderland.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and transported one patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”
