CHILDREN will take a step back in time as they get into the sporting spirit ahead of the Olympics.
One Big Event is a regionwide initiative that will see a series of activities taking place to mark the one-month countdown to the Olympic Games. It will include archery in Sunderland and Edwardian games at Beamish Museum.
Today, pupils dressed in Edwardian sportswear will take part in a host of traditional activities at Beamish Museum, including quoits, shove ha’penny, booler racing and tug of war.
Hylton Castle will host archery demonstrations this evening from Cleadon Archers, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
Geoff Hodgson, chairman of the North East Regional Board for the 2012 Games, said: “We are delighted that all 12 local authorities in the North East are participating in One Big Event to mark one month until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.”
He called for people to go along and support events in their area.
