Officers respond to reports of ‘man with knife’ in Sunderland

Police were scrambled to a Sunderland street following reports of a man with a knife.

Shortly after 9.15pm on Monday, January 13, Northumbria Police received a report of a man who was believed to be in possession of a knife in the Springwell Road area of the city.

Officers were sent to the scene and, on arrival, they searched the area for the man.

After some time, they were stood down as no one was found.

A Northumbria Police spokesman told the Echo: “Officers were deployed to the scene and carried out a search of the local area, but nobody matching the description given was present.”

“We were satisfied that the report was made in good faith.”
