A PENSIONER was airlifted to hospital after his car was involved in a crash with two other vehicles.

 The man, in his early 70s, had to be cut free from his white Peugeot 205 after the collision, which happened at Broom Lane in Stonebridge on the outskirts of Durham at 9.15am yesterday.

 Firefighters freed him and he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
