The group has joined forces with Nadia McSheffrey, owner of the Tranquil Treehouse, to bring children’s emotional wellbeing to the forefront of their early years educational programme,

Samantha Smith, co-owner and manager, said: “There is excellent research to show that by introducing yoga within schools, it is helping to develop children’s resilience and helping them to regulate their feelings and emotions.

“We therefore believe that it is more important than ever to support the youngest of children’s wellbeing so that we are setting them off to a great start in life.”

The youngsters, who are aged between two and four, have even been getting their parents involved.

Samantha said: “It’s been wonderful to see how much they’ve enjoyed the classes so far.

“The children may be young, but they’ve been going home and showing their moves to their parents, who have then been coming in the following day and showing off their tree poses.”

Staff introduced the pre-school children to 30-minute yoga sessions as part of their Early Years Foundation Stage planning.

The weekly sessions focus on physical and mental health, promoting mindfulness and a sense of calmness through breathing and relaxation techniques.

Yoga is incorporated into the early years with the use of stories and songs to help the children to be physical and to teach them the yoga postures.

The exercises have also been helping the youngsters with the transitions of changing schools and the nursery will continue to promote yoga sessions, once it reopens in September.

Little Acorns Pre-school Nursery is open Monday to Thursday between the hours of 9am and 2.30pm during term time only.
