Northern Lights snapped over North Sea – did you get a photo?

WE have been sent this fantastic photo from a reader of the Northern Lights over the North Sea last night.

The stunning snap by Russ Norman shows the mesmerising green swathes of the natural phenomenon off the coast of East Durham.

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, is usually seen over the Arctic.

The origin of the aurora begins on the surface of the sun when solar activity ejects a cloud of gas. If one of these reaches earth, after around two to three days, it collides with the Earth’s magnetic field, causing the magnificent display.
