Craig Lynch’s men would have out of the reach of third-bottom Jarrow Roofing if they had beaten Stockton Town at the Ferguson Motor Repairs Stadium.

But a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to the Wembley-bound Anchors leaves Red Star just four points ahead of Jarrow Roofing, with two games to go.

Stockton went ahead on 12 minutes, when Jamie Owens hit a left-foot shot past keeper Jordan Harkess, capitalising on a poor clearance by Andy Johnston.

Owens hit the post before Tommy Scott went close twice for Seaham, hitting the bar with one effort as they took control.

Robbie Bird had an effort well blocked by Chris Dunwell before the visitors doubled the lead on the hour mark, as James Ward headed home a left-wing centre.

Harkess made a superb save to keep out an Adam Nicholson header as Stockton finished in command, with Sonni Coleman hitting the bar before making it 3-0 in stoppage time.

Red Star will be safe if Jarrow Roofing lose at on-form Sunderland RCA tomorrow night.

Relegated Washington were walloped 8-1 at Consett in their penultimate match.

The Steelmen raced into 3-0 lead, thanks to Michael Sweet, Jordan Lavery, and a thunderous shot from Danny Craggs.

Sweet finished off a good team move for 4-0 before Jak Hanson pulled one back for Washington.

Craggs made it 5-1, following good work by Sweet, and completed his hat-trick to make it 6-1.

Sweet sealed his treble soon after, with David Dowson smashing in the eighth.

In Division Two, Durham City made life hard for promotion-chasing Northallerton Town at Willington before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat.

The all-important goal came from Richard Walker, in the 47th minute. City had Chris Pattison sent off after 83 minutes.

Northallerton’s win took them into the third promotion spot, a point above Whickham and level with second-top Hebburn Town, with two games to play each.

Hebburn’s hopes were rocked by a shock 2-1 home loss to Tow Law Town.

The Lawyers went ahead through Scott Oldfield and, just after half-time, Lewis Teasdale doubled their lead, with a good individual goal.

In the 57th minute, Hebburn talisman Paul Chow was sent off for an off-the-ball challenge.

With nine minutes remaining, Channon North scored from close range to make it 2-1, but Tow Law held firm to deny Hebburn the win which would have taken them into top spot.

Esh Winning won 3-2 at Bedlington Terriers after trailing 2-1, to Jack Foalie’s brace. Callum Boakes and two-goal Connor Halpin gave Esh all three points.
