Ross Preston and Greg Swansbury are back in Martin Swales’ squad, as well as skipper Clayton Davis and Adam McGuinness.

A late fitness test will be given to Ross McNab at Meadow Park and although goalkeeper Neal Bussey is back in light training after three months out, the game may be too early for him.

Now without the departed Paul Chow, boss Richie McLoughlin thinks the midweek Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup defeat to Second Division high-fliers Whickham is a wake-up call.

“We are not playing well at the moment,” said McLoughlin. “However, after the Whickham game, I think the players finally realised what kind of situation we are in. We need a win, and we need to start picking up points, and I hope we can do that against an Ashington side who are having a great season.”

Tom Coulthard is away and misses the game, while Kallum Hannah is also a doubt with a leg injury, so manager Michael Dunwell will have to shuffle his squad around.
