“We are not playing well at the moment,” said McLoughlin. “However, after the Whickham game, I think the players finally realised what kind of situation we are in. We need a win, and we need to start picking up points, and I hope we can do that against an Ashington side who are having a great season.”

Secretary Fred Usher said: “I think we’ll be playing the same team as in midweek - we have no added additions and I don’t think there’s any injuries. I don’t know Ryton that well, but we’re hoping to pick up the three points.”

Sixth-placed Easington Colliery, pegged back to a draw by Brandon United last week, will hope to beat visitors Crook Town at the Welfare Park.

Crook, with a fully fit squad, have signed David Vincent from Shildon on a short-term loan and he should make his debut.

Brandon United face a difficult task at second-top Billingham Synthonia, who have lost just two of their 18 league games.

Synners have one injury worry, with John Seaton struggling to overcome an ankle injury.

Brandon secretary Barry Ross said: “Stephen Turnbull and Luke Thompson are suspended, but Shane Todd returns.”

Bottom club Esh Winning journey to fourth-placed Stockton Town, who have Adam Nicholson back from his one-match suspension.

Tom Coulthard is away and misses the game, while Kallum Hannah is also a doubt with a leg injury, so manager Michael Dunwell will have to shuffle his squad around.

Esh have two new signings available, in Shane Ross and Graham Embleton, but Lee Best, Mark Fish and Andrew Clarkson are all out injured.

Billingham Town, seven points off the promotion places with games in hand, hope to follow up their recent win at leaders Team Northumbria with a victory at Tow Law.
