Northern League: City slickers put a dent in Thornaby's promotion ambitions

One-time leaders Tow Law Town continued to slip away from the promotion pack, following a heavy 4-2 defeat at home to Esh Winning.

The Lawyers will be devastated with the loss, having stormed into a 2-0 lead, thanks to Damon Reaks and Adam Knowles.

However, Connor Halpin pulled one back on 55 minutes, then Daniel Kent equalised with 15 minutes left.

A Matthew Soulsby penalty, with five minutes to go, put Esh in front, then Kent scored his second, deep into injury time, to ensure victory

Although Crook Town have a few games in hand on teams around them at the bottom, they are still just five points above the bottom three, following a 2-0 defeat at West Allotment Celtic.

Two first-half goals from Jonathan Hirst and Bruno Mendes-Correia did the damage.

The other five scheduled matches, including Chester-le-Street’s visit to Brandon United and Willington’s home clash with bottom club Alnwick, were postponed because of waterlogged pitches.

Jarrow are due to entertain Heaton Stannington tonight, while Crook Town, with the Millfield Ground unplayable, have switched tomorrow’s home clash with Easington, who had a weekend off with no fixture arranged, to Consett.

Chester-le-Street host Tow Law tomorrow.
