No verdicts today on three men accused of murdering Sunderland dad David 'Boff' Walsh

Charles Lamont, son Dalton Barnett and former Nissan worker Patrick Duggan are accused of killing of David Walsh, 45, known as Boff, who died from blood loss after a savage stabbing attack in Sunderland last November.

All three deny murder and are being tried by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court.

The jury panel of 12 men and women have so far deliberated for around four hours but have not yet returned any verdicts.

They will resume discussions tomorrow.

Raymond Brown, 37, of Canon Cockin Street, Sunderland, who was seen to plunge a knife into Mr Walsh "26 to 27 times" has pleaded guilty to murder and violent disorder and awaits sentence.

Duggan has told jurors he saw the attack on Mr Walsh, which left him "sick," but played no part in it.

Lamont and Barnett both declined to give evidence.

The father and son were warned by their lawyers that jurors may "draw such inferences as appear proper" from their failure to enter the witness box.

Lamont, 40, of Villette Road, Barnett, 19, of Fuller Road and Duggan, 19, of Palmstead Place, all in Sunderland, deny murder and violent disorder.

Mr Walsh had gone to the lane between Canon Cockin Street and Fuller Road, in Hendon, after he heard his son had been attacked.

He suffered multiple injuries at the hands of attackers using an "assortment" of weapons, it is claimed.

The trial continues.
