The Magpies have been linked with the teenage striker this summer as Rafa Benitez looks to bolster his attacking options.

And reports today suggest Newcastle have opened talks with Chelsea about a possible loan signing of Abraham, who impressed Benitez on loan at Bristol City last season.

The youngster plundered 26 goals in a sensational season in the Championship and is now a wanted man, with Everton and Brighton also linked with the 19-year-old.

Sunderland have been keeping tabs on the player's situation too. The Black Cats are understood to be keen on adding some young, loan players to their squad for next season's tilt at the Championship, regardless of who comes in as manager.

The Echo revelaed today that Chelsea stalwart Eddie Newton - who is now the club's loan technical coach, responsible for the Blues’ battery of talent out on loan - has applied for the Sunderland manager's job, and would look to bring some of the best youngsters at Stamford Bridge with him if he got the position.

However, Abraham looks set to play in the Premier League next season, with reports indicating that Newcastle are willing to match his £25,000 a week wage to secure him on a season-long deal.
