Youngsters went to the woods to enjoy the great outdoors.
Professional sculptor, Neil Canavan, went along to Newbottle Primary Academy to work with families at a Forest School session, which was held in the Adventure Forest in the grounds of the Houghton Road schools.
The sculpture showed parents and nursery children how to use natural resources to build sculptures.
Adventure Forest at Newbottle gives children freedom to learn using all of their senses in the outdoors and encourages creative and imaginative thinking.
This approach to learning builds children’s self-esteem and emotional intelligence through the use of the outdoor woodland environment.
The regular Forest School sessions give youngsters the chance to learn a new skill or take part in a new hands on activity, such as den building, camp fires, team games.
