From Saturday there’s a new host of groups being run by The Cultural Spring to give Wearsiders the chance to try their hand at something new, from print and bookmaking to film animation.

Louise Bradley will be leading the print and bookmaking workshop, which start on Saturday at Monkwearmouth Academy (10am-noon).

The workshops will continue every Saturday for the next four weeks.

There will be a voluntary contribution of £2 per session and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

The film and animation workshop will be led by Robin Webb at Bunnyhill Library, again starting on Saturday (10am-1pm).

The workshops will continue on March 5, 12, 19 and April 2. The fee for the five sessions is £10, and the workshops must be booked through the Customs House on 454 1234. Other ongoing workshops include ceramics, jewellery, singing, learning a new instrument and break dancing.

Emma Horsman, deputy director for the Cultural Spring, said: “Our workshop programme has been developed from lessons learned from the last two years and the sessions are busier than ever.

“All of our workshops are open to beginners as well as people with experience. Some are free, but others we’ve had to make a small charge to cover the cost of materials used.”
