NEON runners, lasers and strobes will light up the Wearside winter sky for a fast-paced first.

Already a successful event across Australia and South America, the Neon Run will make its British debut in Sunderland after it was chosen, alongside Leeds, as host for the first UK Neon Runs.

On the night of Saturday, October 25, fun-runners will be able to take part in a 5km route at Herrington Country Park which will take them through neon zones featuring lasers, strobes, dancers and DJs.

The thousands expected to take part in the event will be running to the beat of disco, pop and iconic British music.

It’s being brought to the city by Sunderland Live, who have teamed up with race organisers Sport 3 Event Management UK, and follows a similar theme to the Color Run being held in July.

Chris Alexander, chief operating officer of Sunderland Live said, “We’re delighted to be bringing another fantastic event to Sunderland which will add another exciting element to our ever-growing events programme.”

Participants – who will be given a LED sound-activated flash band and a T-shirt to wear – can choose to run, walk or jog the distance. They’ll be rewarded for their efforts at the finish line where DJs will perform.

They’ll be invited to colour their faces using luminous face paint and there’ll be a dance-off for those wearing the loudest outfits with the chance to win prizes.

Entry costs £30 per individual or £27 per person as part of a group of four or more people.

Entries are open now at the event website,
