NE Premier League: Wilson, Cuthbertson on song as Washington stun Burnmoor

Kevin Dixon hit an excellent 64 for Moor in a total of 155 all out, backed by Paul Craig (29) and Neil Young (25). Mark Watson snaffled 4-33, with Trent Mais striking twice.

Washington’s opening batsmen made light work of the Burnmoor bowling attack, with Josh Wilson (82) and Stephen Cuthbertson (59), who put on 141 for the first wicket, getting the majority of the runs required, in an eight-wicket win.

Gavin Main added an unbeaten 22 to see the Newtowners over the line.

At the bottom, Seaham Harbour lost for the first time in six games away at Willington, who move into third position with the win.

Harbour batted first up and scored a healthy 201, with Dale Shaw (39) and Craig Hunter (55) leading the way.

In reply, the home side knocked off the required runs for the loss of just two wickets as Brad Foster (93) and Anand Singh (55) dominated the bowlers.

Brandon, who have not won since the middle of May, lost again, this time away to Mainsforth.

The visitors batted first and. with Jonny Barnes (4-18) back in form, they struggled to 124-9, with Chris Peareth top-scoring on 44 and Dean Crampton making 21.

The home side made the required runs in just 26 overs, with Robert Chismon (53no) and Shoaib Laghari (66no) leading the way.

Blaydon remain deep in relegation trouble after losing at leaders Sacriston.

Sacriston, put in to bat, smashed the ball to all parts to make 280-3 declared, with opener Daniel Anderson hitting an unbeaten 138 off 148 balls, including 21 fours and three sixes.

Youngster Solomon Bell chipped in with a solid 61, with Ian Jones adding 24 and Reece Carr 21.

Melvyn Betts then took three of the top five Blaydon batsmen out and the game was effectively over. Martin Hubber claimed 3-35, with Paul Underwood top-scoring on 36 in the visitors’ 126 all out.

Felling are just 12 points behind Sacriston in second place after their win at home to bottom placed, Tudhoe.

The hosts posted 244-4, thanks largely to Stuart Walker (42), Gary Scott (89) and Mark Turner (52 not out).

Turner then took 3-44 with the ball as Tudhoe were bowled out for 165, despite 67 from Andrew Carrick.
