PETER Cullen has swapped chef’s whites for a sailor’s uniform after completing an intensive 10-week training course at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.
The 23-year-old Trainee Air Engineering Technician from Hartlepool was inspired to become a sailor by his father David, who served on HMS Amazon in the 1980s.
The former High Tunstall College of Science pupils said: “I joined the Royal Navy because I wanted to serve my country, see the world and make my family proud.
I’ve had some of the best training in the world and I’m extremely proud to have completed it. Hopefully now I can go on to my professional training, really excel, and from there, forge myself a successful career in one of the world’s best Navies.”
With the first phase of his training complete Peter is heading to HMS Sultan in Gosport for his professional course, where he will learn how to carry out scheduled maintenance as well as pre- and post-flight servicing and inspections for the Fleet Air Arm’s helicopters.
