AN embroidery exhibition inspired by the region’s mining history is set to go on display this weekend.
Mining a Golden Seam, at Beamish Museum, showcases work by members of the Embroiderers’ Guild North East Region and promises to “interpret the theme of mining in unusual and imaginative ways”.
Members of the group explored Beamish in order to get some inspiration for the pieces and a spokesman for the museum said it was clear historical archives made an impression on the work.
“In the North East, the coal industry created communities and shaped a way of life,” he said.
“The heritage of mining features strongly in the exhibition, in dramatic pieces as well as smaller, individual fragments of embroidery.”
The exhibition runs from Friday to Sunday.
