Murder probe: Five charged in connection with South Shields man's death

Five men have been charged in connection with the death of a father-of-two Ronnie Howard.

Michael Anthony Wilson, 35, of Hylton Avenue, South Shields, has been charged with murder, affray and assault following an incident on Wednesday.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance inside the Prince Edward pub in Prince Edward Road, South Shields, at 11pm.

Emergency services attended and 31-year-old Ronnie, from South Shields, was found unconscious. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

David Wood, 28, of Sunderland Road; Anthony Kenrick, 33, of Centenary Avenue; and Paul John Haley, 26, of Ascot Gardens, all South Shields, have been charged with affray and assault.

John Hayes, 58, of Moor Lane, South Shields, has been charged with affray.

The men are due to appeal at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court today.

Two men aged 31 and 30 were released with no further action.
