Laura Robson, 33, has hailed Include ‘In’ Autism for its work with her son Marc Robson, six, who was first diagnosed with the condition when he was four.

The St John Bosco RC Primary School pupil has limited vocabulary and as part of his autism is fixated on his favourite subjects, which include swimming.

On Saturday, she will host a night filled with entertainment at Red House Workingmen’s Club, in Rawmarsh Road, with money raised to go to the organisation, which is based in Porchester Road in Pennywell.

Laura, of Downhill, who is a secretary at Sunderland Royal Hospital and is also mum to daughter Raegan, said: “I’m doing this for the organisation but also to raise awareness about autism because there are lots of people who have it.

“I think some people don’t like to talk about it because they feel something’s wrong, but this can help them see that there’s help, lots of different organisations and lots of different groups which can help.

“Include ‘In’ Autism is a not-for-profit company which is on the internet and runs parent support groups.

“Anyone who looks around can see there are lots of different people, it’s not a death sentence, and anybody can be touched by it.

“This night will be for anybody, but other people with children who have special needs in the area will be especially welcome.”

The night will feature a raffle, tombola, DJ set and more.

Doors open at 7.30pm and admission is £3.50 or people can book in advance by calling Laura on 07519 548 358.
