AN MP has hit out at plans to shake up university education.
Roberta Blackman-Woods, Durham City MP and Labour chairwoman of the Parliamentary Universities Group, said she is concerned by the string of measures outlined in the Higher Education White Paper.
The reforms include ordering universities to publish data such as how many students leave with well-paid jobs and encourage them to pitch for top-performing students.
She said: “I find it simply appalling that for its own ideological purposes the Government is at risk of destabilising a highly successful university sector.”
The Government said the plans would give students “real choice”.
