A MOVE to ease congestion and improve safety at a key road junction will be discussed next week.
The suggested changes to the intersection of the A167 and B6300 at Sunderland Bridge would see the T-junction replaced with a roundabout.
As well as reducing delays and improving safety in the area, it is believed the works will provide easier access to the nearby Meadowfield Industrial Estate, encouraging more businesses to locate there.
Coun Neil Foster said: “About 20,000 vehicles a day use the A167 at this point, with about 5,230 vehicles travelling on the B6300.
“This volume of traffic and the junction’s key location make it one of a number highlighted for priority improvement in the Local Transport Plan.”
A report will be presented to the council next Wednesday.
