Motorists face 45-minute delays after 'multi-vehicle' crash on A19

Drivers are experiencing delays of up to 45 minutes following a multi-vehicle accident on the A19.

Shortly before 8am on Thursday, January 16, police officers and Highways England received reports of a multi-vehicle crash on the A19 close to Easington.

The incident caused the southbound carriageway to be blocked as emergency services were sent to the scene.

Drivers are experiencing severe delays in both directions during morning rush hour, as one lane was closed to allow the recovery of one of the vehicles involved.

At 8.35am on Thursday, a Highways England spokesperson tweeted: “We have heavy congestion on the approach to the area, please allow extra time for your journey

“There are 45 minute delays on the approach to this A19 incident (above usual journey times) spanning five miles back to the A690. Average speeds on the approach to Easington are 11mph.”
