Motorist airlifted to hospital after smash

A DRIVER was airlifted to hospital with serious leg injuries after his car collided head on with a bus.

Witnesses to the smash, on the busy A691 Framwellgate Peth in Durham, have been urged to come forward as police continue to investigate the accident.

It happened at 1.35pm on Friday when the Skoda Octavia overtook a Mercedes HGV as they headed north and hit a Ford Transit mini bus travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Skoda, who lives in Cumbria with his wife who was a passenger in the car, was airlifted to the RVI in Newcastle.
