A North East mortgage firm is looking to expand on Wearside after opening a new office in Sunderland.

First Mortgage North East has moved into the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) on the Sunderland Enterprise Park.

The BIC’s virtual office facility was perfect for us to establish a base with a local telephone number and address as well as having a professional environment to meet our clients.

The company, which currently employs a team of 12, was established 10 years ago offering mortgage advice across the North East accessing deals from most high street lenders.

Business development manager Graham Hickey said: “Mortgage rates have tumbled so it’s a great time to buy. We offer free mortgage advice tailored to suit the individual’s needs, whether they are buying a new home, looking to re-mortgage or investing in a buy-to-let property.”

The firm initially took advantage of the BIC’s cost effective virtual office package but has now moved into a physical office on site.

“First Mortgage already occupies premises in Dunston, Newcastle and Durham and as part of the company’s expansion plans, Sunderland was just one of the areas we were looking to expand in to,” said Graham.

“The BIC’s virtual office facility was perfect for us to establish a base with a local telephone number and address as well as having a professional environment to meet our clients.

“It’s a very cost effective option which allows you to test the water, so to speak, before committing fully to a new location. The easy access for ourselves and our clients, and the on-site services, ticked all the right boxes for us.

“It’s the additional services like being able to divert our calls when we are out of the office, and being able to request detailed telephone reports, which we know are not available from some landlords, that help us plan and monitor our future growth.

“We currently have one adviser based within the BIC and have plans to expand in Sunderland and other areas across the North East in the future.”

BIC Centre manager Donna Surtees added: “I am delighted to see that having initially taken advantage of our virtual office facility, First Mortgage North East now feel that the time is right for them to take their business to the next level and take an office on site.

“It is also satisfying to know that the services the BIC provide are in line with business needs, which is demonstrated by the number of companies expanding and staying on site. I wish them every success.”
