Today is set to stay dry - but it doesn't like it's going to last, according to forecasters.

The Met Office is warning unstable air will bring thundery showers in the UK - though the North East looks set to escape with the traditional April showers.

After a cloudy start with patchy drizzle today, it will become drier and brighter during the morning, with some sunny spells developing in the afternoon. Breezy, especially near the coast. Maximum Temperature 12 °C.

Tonight will see clouds thicken as spells of rain move northwards across the area. Some of the rain will be heavy and accompanied by a fresh easterly wind. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Tuesday will see cloudy with showers or longer periods of rain. The wind will ease slowly through the day and, while most parts will see some drier interludes, any brightness will be short-lived. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Wednesday will be chilly and cloudy with outbreaks of rain, especially during the morning. Thursday is expected to be mainly dry and perhaps brighter but still feeling cold.

Friday is predicted to be cloudy with occasional mainly light rain.
