DESPITE being financially hit by the bank holidays, sales are still booming at a North East pastie producer.

The Royal Wedding and the extra spring bank holidays are said to have cost Greggs about £2million, but the bakery giant still managed to serve up higher sales.

The company’s first-half turnover hit £321million in the six months to July 2, up by 4.2 per cent, with the help of 39 new shops opening.

Like-for-like sales rose by 0.4 per cent.

However, operational profits were hit by the public holidays, and fell by £1.2million to £17.3million.
