Missing pensioner found dead in field close to his home
A 78-year-old who sparked an emergency services search has been found dead on land near to his house.
George Gilday was discovered by police next to his home in Thornley late yesterday after he was reported missing during the afternoon.
Members of the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue and their dogs assisted police search teams in locating Mr Gilday.
Police are treating the death as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Durham Constabulary has sent its thanks to those who helped in their appeal to find Mr Gilday.
