Metro services on the Sunderland route are now operating fully, after a points failure caused a partial line closure.
Trains have been off between East Boldon and Pelaw but have now restarted after infrastructure operator Network Rail repaired the fault.
The Incident began around 1.20pm.
Trains continued to run between between South Hylton and East Boldon, with a a replacement bus running from Heworth to East Boldon and Metro tickets accepted on Go North East services 59 and 9.
A Nexus spokesman said: "We have had a service suspension on the Sunderland line due to a points failure for an hour this afternoon, from around 1.20pm to 2.20pm.
"This has now been rectified by Network Rail and Metro services are resuming in the area.
"We’re sorry for any delays that have been caused.”"
