Trains on the Sunderland line are delayed by up to 20 minutes after a train had to be stopped at St Peter's Metro station while an ambulance was called for a unconscious passenger.

A Nexus spokesman said the incident took place about 8.50am and although the service has resumed passengers will be facing delays for the next hour.

A spokesman said: "A train at St Peter's Metro station has to be stopped as a passenger on board the train was unconscious.

"Other passengers and the driver assisted the passenger and an ambulance was called.

"The train was held for 25 minutes until the ambulance arrived and the passenger was taken to hospital."
