Passengers travelling on the Metro this afternoon are facing delays following two train failures.
Nexus, the provider of the Tyne and Wear Metro service, has confirmed that there are delays of up to 15 minutes system wide due to a track fault and the failed trains.
Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey.
A Nexus spokesman said: "There has been disruption to Metro services into South Shields on Friday afternoon due to some trains being taken out of service after they developed faults.
"This means there has been some gaps in the timetable but Metro is running to all destinations.
"Four of the ten extra trains we send out for the evening peak travel period are currently not running.
"This means that some services will be a bit busier than usual.
"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
