SUNDERLAND fans making their way to this Saturday’s FA Cup match with Southampton at the Stadium of Light are advised to leave extra travel time for their journey due to Metro line closures.

There will be no Metro trains running between Heworth and South Hylton and Heworth and Jarrow all day on Saturday and Sunday to allow for essential work.

There will be a frequent bus replacement service running in the affected areas. The number 900 will run between Heworth and Jarrow and South Shields and bus 901 will run between Heworth and South Hylton. Pelaw Station will be closed entirely, during the work.

Sharon Kelly, Director of Operations and Customer Services at DB Regio Tyne and Wear, said: “Although the replacement bus services along the closed section of line will be running at frequent intervals, passengers travelling in the affected areas are advised to allow extra time to make their journey, especially any fans heading to the match at the Stadium of Light.

Director of Rail and Infrastructure for Nexus, Raymond Johnstone, said: “I apologise to anyone who will be disrupted as a result.”
