The former St Anthony’s Catholic Girls’ Academy student was described as “vibrant and beautiful” in many tributes since her death.
On Thursday night her home town is planning a candle-light vigil for her on the seafront.
In a statement released by Police Scotland, her parents said: “We are devastated at the tragic loss of our wonderful daughter Megan.
“Her death leaves an irreplaceable gap in our lives and she will be so sadly missed by all her family and friends.
“We would also like to thank everyone for the overwhelming number of flowers, cards and condolences sent to us as this very sad time.
“We would respectively ask that we are now left alone to come to terms with our grief.”
The vigil will take place at on the cliff top close to the entrance to Seaham Marina at 7pm, with people asked to take along helium-filled white or blue balloons, as those were Megan’s favourite colours, and candles to light.
A fundraising site, Flowers for Megan, has also been set up by the gathering’s organiser, Laura Ward, who is a friend of the family.
That has already raised more than £1,500.
A night in her honour at Dawdon Social Welfare Club on July 22 has already sold out, with all 220 tickets bought.
Businesses and entertainers have had offered their time and support free of charge.
Police in Perthshire have said they are not treating the death of Megan, and the death of a 17-year-old boy from the west of Scotland at the same festival, as suspicious.
She was found in the early hours of Friday.
Anyone who would like to add to the fundraising evening line up or prizes can email Laura via email@example.com.
