A popular burger bar is bringing its big bites to Durham city.
Fat Hippo will be turning up the heat in historic Saddler Street for the opening of its new restaurant.
It’s been announced that the chain, who have successful ventures in Newcastle as well as pop up stalls, will open on the Saddlers Cafe and Bistro site in April.
Making the most of the rising popularity of gourmet burgers, Fat Hippo opened its first branch in Jesmond, Newcastle, in 2010 and soon earned a cult following.
It opened a second restaurant, Hippo Underground, in Shakespeare Street in Newcastle city centre.
The chain says its specialises in a ‘good kind of gluttony’ with burger toppings such as peanut butter and bacon jam and deep fried gherkins.
A spokeswoman said: “Every burger is ground, weighed, and pressed by hand on a daily basis, so we can ensure a consistently good burger, every time. And we serve them fresh off the grill, pink and juicy, as they should be.”
