SUNDERLAND people are invited to the city’s annual civic Christmas celebrations this weekend.

This year’s events, at the Civic Centre, in Burdon Road, and Sunderland Minster, will be hosted by the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Bob Heron.

The Civic Centre Christmas carol concert will be held on Friday in the council chamber between 10am and 11am.

Music will be provided by The City of Sunderland Youth Jazz Orchestra and Gillas Lane Primary School.

After the concert, you are invited to join the musicians and singers for refreshments in the Mayor’s Parlour.

On Sunday, the festivities move to Sunderland Minster, in High Street West, for the Mayor’s Christmas carol service.

The service begins at 6pm, with guests asked to arrive at least 10 minutes in advance.

People will again be invited afterward to join the Mayor and Mayoress, Juliana Heron, for mince pies and a drink.

Coun Heron said: “We would like to invite everyone to come along and join us at these wonderful occasions. There is nothing like hearing children singing carols and joining in yourself for getting people into the festive spirit.”
