Man taken to hospital after collapse on Sunderland street

A man was taken to hospital for treatment after a passerby raised the alarm when he was found collapsed in a Sunderland street.

Police officers and paramedics were called to Ridley Street in Southwick earlier this evening, Sunday, April 26, after a call was made by a concerned member of the public when they found the man unwell in the street.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “At 5.17pm today, we got a call from a passerby reporting a man had collapsed in the vicinity of Southwick Primary School.

“We dispatched a specialist paramedic and an ambulance crew.

“We stabilised the patient before taking him to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”

The service confirmed police also attended the incident as the man was given initial treatment and then transported from the scene.

Witnesses said they saw three ambulance vehicles and two police cars at the incident.
