The man, who lives locally, fell to the ground after being assaulted, say the police, and was taken to hospital by ambulance with a serious head injury.

The following day, police arrested and interviewed a 16-year-old youth from the area in relation to the assault, and they have since been released on bail.

Inspector Paul Gray said: “An investigation is ongoing and we are following up a number of potential leads.

“If there is anyone who was in the area on Saturday night and may have witnessed what happened, I would urge them to come forward and help our inquiries.”
