A HOUSEHOLDER who left a pan unattended was saved by his smoke alarm.

Firefighters were called to a property in Glebe, Washington, after an elderly man, who had fallen asleep, left a pan on the stove.

The smoke set off his alarm at around 6.30pm on Monday. Firefighters said the situation could have been much worse had it not been for the alarm.
