Man remanded over Peterlee stabbing – victim in ‘serious’ condition

A man is to appear at crown court next week, charged with attempted murder.

Forty-year-old Steven Robinson appeared before Peterlee magistrates yesterday morning.

The case was sent to Durham Crown Court on August 10 and Robinson, of Elliott Road, Peterlee, was remanded in custody.

He is accused of attempting to murder a 33-year-old man who was injured in an alleged attack during a disturbance at the Oaklands pub, in Durham Way, Peterlee.

Police were called to the pub just before 12.30am , on Sunday.

Officers found the victim who was bleeding heavily, having been stabbed several times.

He was taken to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where his condition is described as “serious, but stable.”

The pub was closing at the time of the incident but there were a number of staff and customers present at the time.

Officers also recovered a knife from the premises.

Police have been carrying out inquiries in the area and have appealed for anyone who knows anything to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Lyn Peart said: “We have had crime scene investigators at the premises and have spoken to several potential witnesses.”
