Man due in court on GBH charge after casualty airlifted with head injuries

A MAN was due to appear in court this morning charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

A 52-year-old man was found with injuries to his head, side and hand in Reginald Street, Boldon Colliery, at about 4.40pm on Saturday.

The Great North Air Ambulance was scrambled to the street and the man was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment.

Police say he remains in hospital with “serious but not life-threatening injuries”.

Two men, aged 29 and 40, were arrested after the attack. The 40-year-old has been bailed by the police.

Gary Brennan, 29, of Glaisdale Court, Simonside, South Shields, has been charged with wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

He was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident.
