Man dies following fall at retirement home in Seaham

A man has died after falling at a retirement housing complex in Seaham.

An air ambulance and six ambulances were called to Tempest Road following reports a man had fallen down the stairs at Magdalene Court.

Despite receiving treatment from doctors and paramedics, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene today.

Durham Constabulary, who were called by the ambulance service, currently remain at the scene although the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for the force said: “We were called by the North East Ambulance Service just before 12.30pm, following reports a man had fallen at home.

“Officers attended an address in Magdalene Court, Seaham.

“The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not believed to be suspicious.”

The North East Ambulance Service was initially called at 10.15am on Thursday, December 19, to a ‘medical emergency’.

Pictures show three ambulances and one rapid response vehicle parked on the street.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We were called at 10.15am this morning to a medical emergency at a private address off Tempest Road in Seaham.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene.”

A spokesman for Great North Air Ambulance said: “At 11.22am this morning we flew a doctor and paramedic to the scene. We treated a patient but didn’t airlift.”

The complex contains more than 40 flats.
