Man dies in Easington house fire

A man has died in a house fire in Easington Colliery in the early hours of Wednesday, March 18.

Firefighters were called to a house in Anthony Street to reports of a fire at approximately 12:30am.

Two fire engines from Peterlee and one from Wheatley Hill attended. Crews with breathing apparatus went into the house and rescued the man who was then treated by North East Ambulance Service.

Sadly, the man died at the scene. No one else was injured.

Incident Commander, Lee Brown, saidd: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the man’s family and friends at this time.

“Our fire investigation team is now working closely with our police colleagues to investigate the cause of the fire.”
